A well-deserved Metascore of 100.
A well-deserved Metascore of 100.
Why must I insist on watching Rivers Cuomo & Co. and their antics on Ustream.tv?
The things you do at 2am -_-

Weezer - “Why Bother”
Pinkerton saved my life/heart.
#ANTHEM
You have no idea how fitting this song is to me. I’ve even had exactly two relationships, both of which broke my heart in the summer. Forever my favourite song by Weezer.

Weezer - Blowin’ My Stack
“You mean Album 5 (Make Believe) could have sounded like this!?”
Such a great start to the weekend.

Weezer - Only In Dreams
“…we see what it means.
Reach out our hands.
Hold onto hers.
But when we wake
It’s all been erased.
And so it seems
Only in dreams.”
Weezer-“Falling For You”
There have been essays written about Pinkerton and how it’s River Cuomo’s masterpiece and a modern day Pet Sounds, and that’s great and everything, but I’m not going to reiterate that here. You’ve heard it enough.
There’s one line in this song that sinks it’s teeth in me, and I’m not entirely sure why: “I’ve got a number of irrational fears, that’d I’d like to share with you.” Forget the rest of Pinkerton, because Cuomo just hit the nail on the head with this one line.
Every relationship I’ve been in; every close friendship I’ve had; every time I feel like I can trust someone; I share my fears with them. I guess this is normal, I mean it’s a breaking down of the facade with someone you’re close with, but the key word here is “irrational”, those neuroses you’d be embarrassed to share with anyone whom you didn’t think would understand. That’s the key. The information you’d worry someone would blackmail you to cover up.
When I hear that line, I think about the people I trust enough to share stuff like that with. The friends, the ex-lovers, the “partners in crime”: the people whom I have deemed fit to hold such knowledge about myself, and sometimes I regret those decisions, but I know that in the moment I revealed that info, I felt closer to that person than I did to my own family.
I feel like in one line, Cuomo pinpointed the one thing that any solid relationship is based on: sharing the things with each other that make you a lesser person, and still seeing the person in the same light afterward.

Oh dear…
I have Regina Spektor, John Fogerty and Weezer (with a surprise Julia Nunes appearance) on #BonnarooLive over on YouTube to occupy the next three hours.
God bless American VPNs.
