The fact that you couldn’t skip this made me want to bash my head multiple times against the television screen.

I liked it when FF didn’t have stupid voices.

“HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR”

Noooooo this is like the worst moment in video game history!

I lent that game to a friend years ago and haven’t gotten it back since. NO REGRETS.

DON’T GET ME STARTED

I have friends that have only played this out of all the FF games. How is that even possible?

HOW?

ARGH STAB TIDUS IN HIS STUPID EXPOSED CHEST

The worst voice acting I have ever heard.

Maybe because it was the first to appear on PS2? The graphics are like “omg look at the advancement in technology” (Well for the time they were)

I lent FFVII to a friend of mine and she didn’t like it because it wasn’t “pleasing on the eye”.

I has FFVIII on PSP. I still have my FFVII, FFVIII and FFX about, plus FFIII but 8 was my favourite. I’m guessing you were more about 7? Ten was good (compared to 9, for instance) but I mean, come on now. Tidus’ laugh makes me want to punch tourists.

Love this scene. This is hands down my favourite Final Fantasy title from the entire franchise. With the stunning graphics at the time, yet another superb score from Nobuo Uematsu and the highly emotional and moving story, cut-scenes and dialogue, this game blew me away. This was also Hironobu Sakaguchi’s last involvement as a producer for the Final Fantasy series before leaving Square Enix in 2004 to start his own studio [Mistwalker] who went on to produce Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. Seeing how XIII is a mere 10 days from international release it’s got a hell of a lot to live up to in my opinion.

Now I can see why people hate this scene, or even the game itself. Tidus to some is a rather annoying character and even though this was the director’s intent and for the character to mature throughout the story (similar to Kojima’s plan with Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2, and we all know how that worked out in the West) that’s enough to put someone off a game. In this scene however if you play the Japanese version (or the Chinese undubbed version which you can probably find floating around the Internet) the laughing has a completely different meaning.

The original purpose of the laughing was to include silliness and stupidity. Now when Tidus laughs in the Japanese version, he uses the word “aho”, a word which translates to “idiot”. His laugh is also made to sound like that of a crow’s call, and this sound in Japanese is generally associated with acting daft or silly jokes. Sadly, many of these fine touches are completely gone when the translation is made for the international version and so many of these jokes are simply missing and turn into something that were not the Japanese director’s intent.

Also, fun fact for you all if you’ve read addition to this post so far: This happens to be the only game that has made me cry at the end of the game. I’m not one for crying, especially over a video game storyline, but when you spend several hundred hours indulged in a fantasy universe, it’s relatively easy to become somewhat attached to the characters and how they feel, simply because they happen to be your characters. I would say that’s what makes the RPG such a strong and amazing genre.

Anyway, hope the RPG fans who read this are excited as I am for the next Final Fantasy. I just hope it lives up to all the hype.

One of the best in the franchise
FF10 FTW

FFX is definitely my favourite in the franchise. I have a ridiculously awesome save on my memory card with every character around the entire sphere grid. I must have spent every day for a whole year playing that game.

Although I’ve been busy this weekend watching Evo and also celebrating my friend’s 21st birthday, I have got to mention the awesomeness that is The Final Fantasy Marathon being held by the folks over at TheSpeedGamers:
“TheSpeedGamer’s Final Fantasy marathon to raise money for ACT Today begins Friday July 17th @ 6pm cst and will last one week (168 hours straight!). Final Fantasy 1-12 will be played with no tool assistance. A game feed will be hosted here on our site www.TheSpeedGamers.com alongside a commentary feed and chatroom. Many great prizes will be given away to viewers and donators such as variousartwork by Anatotitan, cactuar and chocobo plushies from Skeletor1991, a mouse pad from Ruju, Gwellin will be giving away an album and tee shirt from Video Games Live along with a Tidus (FF10) figure.Games (in play order) and playersFinal Fantasy I:KilgardFinal Fantasy II:LocalFinal Fantasy VI:Cross WarriorFinal Fantasy V:PhilFinal Fantasy III:GwellinFinal Fantasy VII:DustinFinal Fantasy IX:Daniel L. & othersFinal Fantasy X: Rob & othersFinal Fantasy IV: BlackDuckFinal Fantasy VIII:Daniel M.Final Fantasy XII: Britt & ChaseFinal Fantasy XI will be played by an honorary participant “Nobody X” who has a form of Autism so the cause is very close to her heart. They’re currently on the fifth game on their list (Final Fantasy III) and will soon be approaching the behemoth that is Final Fantasy VII. They also forget to mention that they are also doing this marathon in hopes to raise $20,000 for charity, something which I truly admire after raising over £500 toward Cancer Research UK for a Rock Band Marathon me and my friend Matt did earlier this year at The Gathering 2009 in Norway.
I should be tuned in all week and I’ve already donated, so good luck guys, all the best!
