HBO’s 24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the Winter Classic Episode 1

In case any hockey fans out there haven’t watched the first HBO Winter Classic special yet, you can watch the whole thing online over on the NHLVideo YouTube channel (and in 720p HD too).

There’s no excuses on missing this now!

This is why Brooks Orpik is my favourite player.

Oh man, this was such a great goal from Staal last Thursday. You could tell their goalie Emery was pissed off that night, can’t believe he even scored an own goal too, classic.
Necessary YouTube link to goal is necessary.

Okay, so NHL ‘10 is an absolute blast, the features on offer here are just amazing.
So much online content including simple matchmaking and versus play, shootouts, chat and lobbying, joining online teams and competing in scheduled matches in both EA Sports and custom created leagues, leaderboards, photo and video capture (demonstrated above, loving this goal from Crosby, take that NY Islanders!) with online sharing and even publishing to Facebook/MySpace/Bebo/Blogger, loads of new unlockable equipment to play around with and that’s just the online features.
It also has custom soundtrack support right off the PS3 hard drive, 7 player offline support (with a tonne of pads - I have five already), tutorials, quick play, season mode, a “Be a GM” mode, a play as a pro mode where you play as a single person on a team and control only that player for the entire season, customisable characters and rosters… Hell, you can even create your own mode!
I have to say, I am completely blown away by what’s on offer here. This is a game that will last me the whole year at this rate. I might be struggling for some local multiplayer games as I don’t really have any friends that are interested in hockey, though my housemate Ollie was playing the game for a good 2 hours or so earlier this evening, and two friends sat and watched the Pens Vs Rangers game last week and they absolutely loved it (especially the fight with Godard [I think?]) and would be up for watching another game with me.
My gosh, I’ve turned in three weeks from knowing hardly anything about the sport into a complete addict. What is wrong with me?

PENS ALERT: Pens fall to PHX 3-0

FFFUUUCCKKKKKK.
Getting these texts updates seems to be a questionable idea, so far. When we win, I’m so excited and filled with happiness and joy. When we *shudder* lose, I want to throw my phone against the wall (and have, kind of).

This does not bode well for my phone. I’ve already dropped it in a toilet once. Poor thing is going to run away.

OKAY, THIS IS A NOTE FOR ALL OF TUMBLR USING HOCKEY FANS:

Seeing how I’m now following a sport that is not broadcast in my country, it means I do not get to see the game til at least 24 hours after the broadcast, and I hate to have to avoid Tumblr for a day in order to avoid ice hockey results.

Unless it’s the Stanley Cup final and everyone is going to be blogging crazy about it (in which case I’ll avoid the Internet), if you could refrain from posting scores it’d be much appreciated.

Thankyou.

Oh sheesh y’all, am I actually going to be watching my first ever game of NHL tonight? I think I am.
But I hope to God I can figure out what the hell is happening.
I’m so cool.
Whatever.
