Designer Kong Fanwen had the bright idea to create a completely transparent glass keyboard. The keyboard, which is still a concept, would work with a tiny camera able to detect the movement of your fingers and log keystrokes. The keys could conceivably be programmed to make that satisfying “click” when pressed, but they wouldn’t give the same tactile sensation of being pressed. Still, if you could get past the alien feel of the keyboard, it would definitely make your desk a more attractive place. (Source)

i want this soooooo baaaaaad

this looks like the effing shit
this and the iContact.

Stupid idea. Thankfully this is only a concept and will hopefully never be actually created. When something will use 10x more resources, offer no practical advantages except for being more aesthetically and create more problems than it solves, it is fail. Okay, the camera idea- Am I the only person that ever types in the dark? Also, presumably the keys would be set on the glass, what about those of us that use alternative keyboard layouts? Oh, and something like this would require additional setup and would not be plug n play. And I don’t know if any of you touch type, but having a non-tactile input device is not a pro. It looks smoother, prettier, but it is a con.

This isn’t even wireless.  There is absolutely no convenience, so this is like hardware foot-binding (in that neither is even attractive in any way, frankly).  Functionality is attractive, and this creates more shit to have break down.  Tactile typing is the way for someone needing functional convenience (like myself) conditions a non-instinctual thing like typing into near-instinct, so this is another step back, here.
Hell, even this has some sort of portability on its side.  I have become excessively annoyed with what people call “pretty” that isn’t at-all good for them, in case you haven’t caught on.

I have to agree with the negative comments here, not only does a keyboard like this require you to teach yourself a non-tactile keyboard (I’m aware the designer claims tactile feedback could be implemented, but c’mon, seriously? In a sheet of glass?) along with it’s overall cost to manufacture, depending on whether or not that keyboard layout is printed or rendered using OLED or LCD means that nobody would want to splash the cash for this.
But speaking of amazing keyboards, here’s my favourite: the Optimus Maximus!

It includes an OLED screen on every single key, and the keys adapt depending on whether or not you have Caps Lock or Shift on, the keys change to match the user’s keyboard layout, there’s 10 programmable keys down the side and the keys can even adapt to particular pieces of software such as Adobe Photoshop or Quake III Arena:

You can even watch movies on this keyboard if you wanted to. Yes, it works for both Windows and Macintosh (along with Linux I believe) but it certainly comes at a price:
44,000P (That’s the Russian Ruble, sort of… long story on that one)$1692.31€1257.14
I know that when I have a spare grand or two laying around that I’ll be ready to buy one of these beauties.
Okay, enough keyboard talk for one day, perhaps?

the snip tool in windows 7 is my favorite thing ever.

Ok, my favorite thing today.

I really like Windows 7. I’m only using it on the laptop for now (running x86), where I* replaced Vista. I want to put it on the desktop with the 64 bit version but that requires a clean install and I’m just not up to that. I hate doing clean installs. They freak me out.

So I’ll play around with it on the laptop for now. But I like it fine thus far.

*Todd replaced my Vista. It was sort of a “Surprise OS!” because I was in a bad mood all day and being all grumpy and crap and he figured that would make me happy, which it did, but didn’t as make me happy as the fact that he wanted so much to make me happy did. Understand? Good.

Just like CMD+shift+4 is for mac folks, the snip tool is the most important thing to create content on tumblr.

The Snipping Tool has actually been around since Windows XP Tablet Edition, and it’s not changed since. It’s nice how you can annotate and highlight the captured area and from there save it to your desktop but it still lacks a keyboard shortcut (but you can always right-click the program and create a Ctrl+Alt+Whatever shortcut for it) but I prefer Mac OS X’s Cmd-Shift-4 any day.

I like how pressing space whilst in Cmd-Shift-4 and hovering the cursor over a window allows you to capture a single window and also handle any transparencies the window has (such as Dashboard widgets) unlike Windows’s Alt+PrintScreen.

I can’t believe I just typed a two paragraph debate on screen grabbing keyboard shortcuts. I’ll go back to my little world now.

Sad!

It’s too difficult to play typeracer in class because people wonder why I’m pounding out “notes on statistical bias” with the fervor of a mad woman.

No worries guys. Just trying to beat my record 105 wpm.

Heh, you addict! :p

Thanks a lot KG and Sam

You make me feel so ashamed of my typing skills.

Mavis Beacon to the rescue!!!
