“In support of EVO’s spirit of top-level competitive play, Mad Catz® will contribute to the Super Street Fighter IV cash prize and produce a super-limited run of exclusive Tournament Edition “golden sticks” to be awarded as prizes to the top eight competitors in the Super Street Fighter IV tournament. The only way to get one of these sticks is to place in the top eight, so practice up!”

Two Street Fighter/Tekken crossovers revealed
Street Fighter creator Yoshinori Ono and Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada got together at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con to deliver the news that fighting game fans have been waiting just over 15 years for.

Tom, Casey, Jamie. OMG #NERDBONER

I was sad enough to be watching a Capcom Comic-Con live stream last night when this trailer came on. They even shared some gameplay footage with us which rocks.
Oh, and for those who can’t manage six button games there’s Tekken X Street Fighter in simultaneous development by Namco too (presumably on the Tekken 6 engine). Dropping Street Fighter’s six-button characters down to four-button has been done on several occasions (minus the sidestep). What will be interesting is how they incorporate Tekken’s four-button and sidestepping characters into a 2.5D environment.
Looks promising!
On top of this announcement we have a re-release of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike with online play and potentially some reworked mechanics and visuals, PLUS we still have Marvel vs Capcom 3 on it’s way. And that’s just Capcom, don’t forget all the other projects on the way.
Here’s a list of all the fighting games in the works right now:
Street Fighter X Tekken (as we’ve seen above)
Tekken X Street Fighter (Namco’s crossover title simultaneous to SFxT)
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (Arc system works sequel to Calamity Trigger in 2 days!)
King of Fighters XIII (SNK Playmore ain’t giving up yet on this entirely hand-drawn beauty and the latest roster looks highly promising, all the familiar teams are back along with every male’s favourite character - Mai)
Mortal Kombat [2011] (back to old-school MK mechanics too!)
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (2.5D sequel to the chaotic Dreamcast fighter MvC2 with many new additions to the roster)
Super Street Fighter IV (Arcade/PC release with included additional characters as DLC for consoles)
Tekken 7 (only confirmed in an announcement by director Katsuhiro Harada but it’s still something to look forward to. Let’s hope they don’t take as long as they did with Tekken 6)
I’m so happy to see the fighting genre booming once again.
