Tumbling Back to Tumblr

So, this blog of mine has existed since mid-2007 and back then, I had plans to post regularly about things that relate to me (be it personal stories, links, photos, videos, whatever) and for a period of time, I did.

It got to a point though, as with any other blog, where I began to lose interest in putting my time and effort into blogging. Eventually, my blog had slipped into a point where I was typing an entry on my desktop that reached over 20,000 words and was pointless for many reasons:

1. Nobody sane on this planet is going to read through this ongoing blog post.
2. Due to the time scale between my last major blog post sometime late 2007 and the present, there was much to talk about, yet I wasn’t able to remember what happened in the space of over a year and a half.
3. Due to the fact that this post was ongoing, plus the fact that I couldn’t remember the things I wanted to talk about, the entry was never in a state where I could say to myself that it was ready for submission.

Ultimately, I’ve decided after all the hard work I put into this one entry that I decided to scrap my tumblelog altogether and start afresh - by removing all my previous entries and by giving my blog a new lick of paint.

I decided to go for a two-column design and seeing as how I’m unbelievably lazy when it comes to web design, I took the template approach and picked this gorgeous template by fellow blogger Alexander Kohlhofer (thanks by the way). I made a few modifications to the layout and the CSS to suit my needs, such as my blog title, where I’ve lazily changed “h4” to 5em and with reduced font spacing and such as the theme already made use of the “h1” and “h2” tags for the second column, and “h3” is in use by the Disqus comments system).

I’ve also noticed on many people’s tumblelogs how they have a list of who they follow so with a bit of reading the Tumblr guidelines, I’ve decided to include this into the second column on my blog as well. There’s some cool people blogging there and I advise anyone who is reading this to check them out, there are some truly interesting, creative and funny people on the Internet.

So, to summarise how my site is laid out, basically, down the left I have all my posts from Tumblr, such as my text entries and any random photos or videos I’ve scooped off the web. And down the right, I have some links to my profiles on various sites, the search box, people I follow here on Tumblr, RSS links and my FriendFeed.

Now, FriendFeed is a service I’ve only recently found out about and, for me, it’s basically there as a backup for aggregating all my content from various social networking sites I use and posting them from an RSS feed into the column, in case I’m wasting time browsing social networking sites and other crap which should really be spent on blogging here.

Okay, I think that’s enough for today, I’m gonna be sticking to much smaller posts from here on, seeing as that’s the point of Tumblr I guess. Check this blog again soon for hopefully some updates or if you’re already on Tumblr, just follow me and I’ll most likely follow you back.

Later y’all.
